About the Author

Childhood & Education
Rick Riordan was born on June 5, 1964.  (Happy Birthday!)  He grew up in San Antonio, Texas.  When he was only thirteen, he submitted his first written piece to be published, but it was not.  He went on to college in Texas thinking he wanted to be a guitar player, and then decided to become a teacher. 

After college, he taught 6th through 8th graders English and Social Studies.  After a few years of teaching, he decided to leave teaching to become a full-fledged author.

Rick Riordan has a decent sized family. He has a wife and two sons, Haley and Patrick.
Rick also has a dog (Golden Labrador mix) and two black cats.

Rick Riordan is also the #1 New York Times Best Selling Author!
He writes the Percy Jackson Series, Heroes of Olympus, The Kane Chronicles, and some 39 Clues.
